Really nice shot; would look excellent printed large and framed.

Hi Tom,

that I took with the Nikkor 50mm 1.8. The look you get if you follow the person with your camera so that you have some motion blur on the background, while the person is in focus.

You also need a good place where you have enough light. Next to a shop window for example.

I'm using a Nikon D200 and for this image the 18-200 VR lens from Nikon.

And, yes, the darkness is a photoshop effect. It's an vignette added to the picture :)

please could you tell me what camera and lense you used for his shot - it's amazing - and you know that other one of the two girls under the umbrella that everyone on flickr was commenting on - how did you capture that one so crisply? it's bloody amazing, I'm just learning, and i'd love to know how you managed to get it to look so filmic ... was it taken with a film camera or digital?
